Hey Dave, as someone who recently decided to dive into learning about the business of the brewing industry, I appreciate your insightful reporting.

With regards to the rent increase dilemma facing breweries, I am wondering how much of an increase will be seen with contract brewing as a measure to limit a brewery’s direct exposure to rent hikes to only their taproom(s). I imagine it is much easier and less costly to move a taproom than a whole brewing facility.

My next thought is I wonder how many breweries have executed or will execute agreements with more than one contract brewery for redundancy sake in case a contractor runs into a significant issue at their facility including facing a move or close decision due to a rent increase they can’t afford.

Fullsteam, the brewery I focused on in the column at VinePair, is indeed availing itself of the contract brewing capacities of other brewers rather than trying to find a new location! Multiple!
