Here's what RNDC employees are hearing from new CEO Marc Sachs

The ailing mega-distributor's head honcho has emailed about the Reyes deal and the firm's new financing

Editor’s note: This post was originally updated on 1/13/25 and most recently updated on 1/21/25. If you have tips about what’s going on at RNDC, please get in touch by emailing me ([email protected]) or texting me on Signal (dinfontay.11). Anonymity available.—Dave.

On Tuesday morning, I published a scoop at VinePair detailing Republic National Distributing Company’s impending sale of a chunk of its middle-tier empire to Reyes Beverage Group, the country’s largest beer distributor. Read it here.

While trade press on January 13th reported a statement from RBG's spokesperson saying the firm was in "active discussions" about such a deal, my report was based on a memo from RNDC’s new president and chief executive Marc Sachs' to the ailing mega-distributor’s employees. I obtained this message from an RNDC employee; I have granted them anonymity to speak to me without fear of retaliation from the company. The document, which you can read in full below, suggests that the acquisition of RNDC’s operations is much further along than the “discussion” phase.

A few days later, on Friday, January 16th, the chief executive of Republic National Distributing Co. sent a memo to employees announcing the firm had "finalized an agreement with our lenders to provide significant additional funding" that "creates a pathway to success for RNDC." You can read the entire message—which I obtained from several current workers at the firm, who have been granted anonymity to protect their livelihoods—below as well.
