This past Wednesday, Fingers broke the news that Tilray Brands was once again laying off employees in its brewing division. The transatlantic vice conglomerate confirmed my reporting shortly after publication, and by Thursday had issued a press release about the cuts. Well, sort of. There’s no information in the dispatch about the number of workers laid off, or from which roles, or on which of Tilray’s two dozen brands they’d been working. You know, actual information. But with an upcoming consolidation of the company’s distribution network on the horizon, chief executive Irwin Simon can smell “improved margins and profit generation” just around the bend:
We are at the beginning of actioning these initiatives, and we anticipate they will flow through the broader business with the full impact anticipated in fiscal 2028.
This sentence may be gibberish on the page, but it’s all about how it hits a Wall Street analyst’s ear. Which is “the middle-tier bloodbath starts now; expect a payoff next year.”
