
The craft-brewing industry was never “99% asshole-free,” as Dogfish Head Brewery’s founder Sam Calagione was (in)famously fond of describing it in the Aughts and early 2010s. But for a long time—too long—it managed to maintain that facade thanks to market tailwinds, a pliant press, low labor-union density, and so forth. I don’t know if anybody insists the hemp-derived tetrahydrocannabinol market is similarly hunky-dory. But if they do, they’re wrong. The THC business has a shithead problem. And it threatens the entire booming category.
