Earlier this month I learned of the existence of “I Am Charlie Kirk” wine, marketed by a company called Republican Red Winery. I’d understand if you simply stopped reading at the end of the previous sentence. Frankly, that was probably the right call. But the rest of you know that there are a growing number of right-wing pander-brands in the beverage-alcohol space, and they all share some basic characteristics. Republican Red lands somewhere along this spectrum of aggrieved entrepreneurs, slapdash trolls, and full-blown frauds: for example, it first cropped up on my radar a few months ago, when I received a press release from the brand touting its $99 “Operation Midnight Hammer” Cabernet Sauvignon. “This wine honors not destruction, but peace through strength. It commemorates strategic leadership and the remarkable skill of our military,” reads the product listing.

You get the gist. But when it comes to the company’s Charlie Kirk-themed offerings, there appears to be more to the story.
